Our services

From emergency rescue and transfers to medical escorts from abroad: here is an overview of our services.

Primary response (emergency rescue with or without blue lights and siren)

Every emergency call-out team includes at least one qualified paramedic (Swiss higher vocational diploma, HF). We treat our patients competently at the scene and with the necessary calm.

On the way to the appropriate destination hospital, we watch over them with modern monitoring and hand them over to the emergency department team there. In 2025, we carried out 6,104 primary responses.

Secondary transfer (patient transfer with or without blue lights and siren)

In a secondary transfer, we move patients from one hospital or clinic to another facility, for example from a hospital providing basic care to a major central hospital, or back.

We continue ongoing treatments such as medication, monitoring or nursing measures to the same standard during the transport. In 2025, there were 573 secondary transfers.

SGNOR emergency physicians

Our emergency physicians work on a freelance basis. All have several years of pre-hospital experience, and most hold a specialist title from the Swiss Medical Association (FMH) and the emergency physician certificate of competence from the Swiss Society of Emergency and Rescue Medicine (SGNOR). Their main occupation is in anaesthesia, intensive care medicine or clinical emergency medicine.

They travel to the scene in our emergency physician vehicle (NEF), which is stationed in Reinach. It is staffed 365 days a year, usually with a paramedic (HF) at the wheel. On board are, among other things, a video laryngoscope, an ultrasound device, a mechanical resuscitation device and a set for arterial blood pressure measurement.

Since 2022, we have been recognised as a postgraduate training centre by SGNOR and have been training future emergency physicians. Our emergency physician system is part of the ‘Weiterbildungsstätte Präklinische Notfallmedizin Nordwestschweiz’ (north-west Switzerland postgraduate training centre for pre-hospital emergency medicine).

MCI – mass casualty incident

In the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, the ambulance services are responsible for medical command in a mass casualty incident (MCI). They provide the command organisation and additional resources.

The first crews on the scene set the structures for every incident. That is why a structured approach and well-rehearsed cooperation are what count. The ambulance services of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft develop all documents and processes jointly and introduce them uniformly in both cantons. They are based on the guidelines of the Swiss Interassociation for Rescue (IVR-IAS), the SFG-P and ‘Erstes Team vor Ort’ (first team on scene) courses and the requirements of Feuerwehr Koordination Schweiz (FKS, the Swiss fire service coordination body).

Repatriation and medical escorts

On behalf of assistance companies and travel insurers, we bring patients back from abroad to their home country by road and provide medical care along the way. On request, we take care of the entire organisation. Our transfer vehicles are equipped for this. For a non-binding quote, please use our contact form.
