Training
Emergency medicine is constantly evolving, and so are we. In our initial and continuing training, we combine the latest findings with what has proved its worth on call-outs.
Initial training
On a call-out, you have to keep a cool head, communicate clearly and make decisions, even when things get hectic. That is exactly what you learn in the three-year training to become a qualified paramedic (Swiss higher vocational diploma, HF): examining and treating patients, allocating tasks within the team and coping with pressure.
The practical part takes place with us on the ambulance, the school part at medi, Zentrum für medizinische Bildung, in Bern. You start with an introductory week in which you practise the most important techniques and procedures hands-on. You are not on your own: we always have several students in training.
You will find the requirements and dates in the application process (PDF, in German). Apply online via our job vacancies, we look forward to hearing from you.
Further and continuing training
Together with our partner ambulance services in the region, we run certified courses such as TECC, EPC and AMLS. Internally, we regularly train on key topics from everyday work on call-outs, such as megacode, emergency cricothyroidotomy (scalpel cric) and paediatric emergencies.
Every two weeks, we discuss cases from our call-outs as a team. As a postgraduate training centre recognised by the Swiss Society of Emergency and Rescue Medicine (SGNOR), we also train emergency physicians.
